Terms of service
Last updated 25 October 2026
These are the rules for using MTGTrade. They're written to be read: the short version is that the app is free, trades are between you and the other player, and everyone should be decent to each other.
1. About MTGTrade
MTGTrade helps Magic: The Gathering players keep track of their collections, find the cards they want and arrange trades with people at their local game shop. It's a free, non-commercial hobby project run by Simon Shinkins (Leeds Ecommerce), Platform, New Station St, Leeds LS1 4JB ("we", "us"). Contact: [email protected].
By creating an account you agree to these terms and to how we handle your data as set out in our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. Who can use it
- MTGTrade is for people in the United Kingdom.
- You must be at least 13. If you're under 18, make sure a parent or guardian knows you're using it, especially before you trade.
- One account per person. Keep your password safe; you're responsible for what happens on your account.
- Give accurate details, and use your own email address.
3. A free service, provided as it is
MTGTrade costs nothing and has no paid features. It's run in spare time, so it's provided "as is": we don't promise it will always be available, error-free or kept forever, and features may change or stop. We'll give notice in the app before closing the service, so you can download your data first.
We can't guarantee that card details, images or prices are accurate or up to date. Prices come from the Cardmarket price guide and Scryfall and are only a guide to what cards are worth.
4. Shops
Members belong to one or more local game shops. Each shop is run in the app by its own admins (usually the shop's owner or staff), who decide who can join, can approve or turn down requests, and can remove members from their shop. Shops and their admins are independent of us; we're not responsible for a shop's own rules, events or premises.
If you ask us to add your shop, you confirm that you own or work at it and are allowed to set it up. We may decline or remove shops at our discretion.
5. Trading
MTGTrade helps members agree trades, but trades are between members. We don't buy, sell, hold or deliver cards, we aren't a party to any trade, and we don't handle money. Cash amounts in a trade are only a note of what you've agreed; you settle them yourselves, in person.
- Meet in person, ideally at your shop, and check cards (condition, language, authenticity) before you swap.
- Only offer cards you own and describe them honestly, including condition.
- Confirm a trade in the app only after the swap has happened. Confirming moves the cards between your collections in the app.
- Back out in the app if a card is lost or damaged before you meet, rather than leaving the other person waiting.
Any disagreement about a trade is between the people involved. You can report problems to your shop's admins in the app, and they or we may act on accounts that break these terms, but we can't settle disputes, recover cards or refund anyone.
The app is for swapping cards between players, not for running a business selling cards.
6. Your conduct
Please be the kind of person you'd want to trade with. Don't:
- harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone, or post anything offensive or sexual;
- scam, mislead or pressure people, or offer counterfeit or proxy cards as genuine;
- spam people, or use the app to advertise;
- impersonate anyone, or create accounts to get around a block or ban;
- try to access other people's data or accounts, break or overload the app, or scrape it;
- break the law, or encourage anyone else to.
You can block anyone, and report profiles and chat messages to your shop's admins. Shop admins can remove or ban members from their shop. We can suspend or delete accounts that break these terms, without notice where needed to protect other members.
7. What you add
You keep ownership of what you add (your collection, profile, messages and so on). You give us permission to store it and show it to other members in the way your settings allow, only to run the app. You're responsible for what you post; we may remove content that breaks these terms.
8. Magic: The Gathering and card data
MTGTrade is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy. It is not approved or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast. Portions of the materials used are property of Wizards of the Coast. ©Wizards of the Coast LLC.
Card data and images are provided by Scryfall; prices come from Cardmarket and Scryfall. MTGTrade isn't connected with ManaBox, Moxfield, Scryfall or Cardmarket; their names are used only to say where data comes from or which files you can import.
9. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Your legal rights are not affected.
Otherwise, because the app is free and run as a hobby, and to the extent the law allows, we're not responsible for:
- trades, or anything other members do or say, in the app or in person;
- cards that are lost, damaged, counterfeit or not as described;
- decisions you make based on prices or card details shown in the app;
- the app being unavailable, or data being lost (we take care to avoid it, and you can download your data at any time);
- any indirect loss, or any business loss (the app is for personal use).
10. Leaving, and ending your account
You can leave a shop or delete your account at any time in the app (Me › Privacy), and download your data first. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the law, or that have been inactive for a long time (with notice by email for inactive accounts). If we close the service we'll give notice in the app first.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app about significant changes before they take effect. If you keep using the app after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If something goes wrong, please email [email protected] first and we'll try to sort it out. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in your local courts; otherwise the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute.
